Researcher of the Year Award
The Society for Perioperative Research and Care Researcher of the Year Award is presented annually to
an individual in recognition of excellence in research, knowledge creation, innovation and whose work
has contributed to improved health care outcomes of individuals undergoing surgery.
Purpose of the Award:
This award is given to a health care professional or scientist who has made substantial contributions
through demonstration of scholarly output and leadership in perioperative research. The award
recognizes an individual who has created a collaborative and innovative research program and has made
substantial contributions to the professional and research growth of students, trainees and young staff.
Selection Criteria:
The researcher of the year award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated sustained excellence in
research and who has a record of establishing a research program that has had demonstrable impact on
healthcare, research mentorship and collaboration. The research has to represent a sustained record of
contribution to new knowledge. Nominees will be evaluated on the following criteria:
1. Excellence in research on the basis of published work.
2. Impact of research on clinical outcomes.
3. Communication/Knowledge translation of research.
4. Demonstration of research leadership in the field of Perioperative Medicine.
5. Recognition by academic institutions, professional societies or other external bodies of research
excellence.
6. Member’s contributions to the research environment locally, nationally and internationally through
contributions to the development of major research installations (e.g., a research group or
centre), participation in the deliberations of a major research granting agency or other prestigious
forms of service to the field.
7. Contributions to the research training and education of highly qualified personnel.
Selection Committee:
The Board of Directors of the Society for Perioperative Research and Care will establish the Selection
Committee on an annual basis.
Application/Nominations:
Nominations may be made by any member of the Society for Perioperative Research and Care (SPRC).
Nominators will provide a one or two page summary of the nominated candidate, identifying the
accomplishments and career achievements that meet the eligibility criteria and an up-to-date curriculum vitae.
The Society for Perioperative Research and Care and Medicine Selection Committee will review
nominations and may request additional information from selected nominators.

Deadline for submissions: November 5, 2021 at noon.
The recipient of this award will receive a prize which will be presented as part of the Society for
Perioperative Research and Care Awards Presentations at Perioperative Care Congress,
Nov. 11-14, 2021.
