The SPRC established its awards program in 2019 to recognize and promote scholarship in Perioperative Medicine. The following information is applicable to all SPRC awards:
- Nominations for awards may be made by any member of the Society for Perioperative Research and Care.
- The deadline for all nominations to be submitted is October 29, 2021.
- Submissions after this deadline will not be accepted. Information on decisions will be shared in confidence with the recipient and nominator before public disclosure.
- All awards will be presented at the Annual Perioperative Care Congress (Nov 11-14, 2021).
- All award recipients will receive complimentary registration for the Congress and as well as an honorary award.
Nominees who are not selected as award winners will not receive official notification. Nominees not selected as the award winner in any given year may be nominated in subsequent years provided a new nomination package is submitted. Awards Categories
The Society for Perioperative Research and Care (SPRC) Early Investigator Award recognizes early career investigators (within 5 years of their first faculty appointment) and their accomplishments in the field of Perioperative Medicine. The individual’s work should be illustrative of accomplishments that have been recognized locally and are gaining recognition national or internationally.
Purpose of the Award:
This award recognizes the research achievements of an early investigator whose work demonstrates research of high quality and scientific relevance in perioperative medicine. The individual’s work should be reflective of future research potential and leadership.
The Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award recognizes an exceptional teacher who has demonstrated a commitment to excellence in education and/or education innovation to advance the practice of perioperative medicine. This award will recognize a member of the Society for Perioperative Research and Care (SPRC) who has demonstrated a record as an outstanding teacher and who has a record of contributing to education scholarship in the field of perioperative medicine.
Purpose of the Award:
The award is given to any health care professional who emphasizes and excels as a teacher through demonstration of innovation and leadership in teaching. The award recognizes individuals who have created a positive and respectful learning environment and their contributions have led to the professional growth of students, trainees and junior staff.
The Society for Perioperative Research and Care (SPRC) Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual whose work has had a local, national or international impact in Perioperative healthcare delivery.
Purpose of the Award:
This award will recognize an individual of significant stature who has made outstanding contributions to Perioperative Medicine on a local, national and/or international scale over an extended period.
The Society for Perioperative Research and Care Researcher of the Year Award is presented annually to an individual in recognition of excellence in research, knowledge creation, innovation and whose work has contributed to improved health care outcomes of individuals undergoing surgery.
Purpose of the Award:
This award is given to a health care professional or scientist who has made substantial contributions through demonstration of scholarly output and leadership in perioperative research. The award recognizes an individual who has created a collaborative and innovative research program and has made substantial contributions to the professional and research growth of students, trainees and young staff.
Selection Committee:
The Board of Directors of the Society for Perioperative Research and Care will establish the Selection Committee on an annual basis.
Application/Nominations:
Nominations may be made by any member of the Society for Perioperative Research and Care (SPRC).
Nominators will provide a one or two page summary of the nominated candidate, identifying the accomplishments and career achievements that meet the eligibility criteria and an up-to-date curriculum vitae.
The Society for Perioperative Research and Care and Medicine Selection Committee will review nominations and may request additional information from selected nominators.

Deadline for submissions: November 5, 2021 at noon.
The awards recipients will receive a prize which will be presented as part of the Society for Perioperative Research and Care Awards Presentations at Perioperative Care Congress on Nov. 11-14, 2021.
