Attend Pre-Course

The Pre-Course Research workshop will be held in the David Braley Health Sciences Centre on Friday November 7, 2025.

The Research Worshop is hosted in collaboration between the Society for Perioperative Research and Care and the Perioperative Care Research Network.

** Abstract and awards submission deadline extended until September 18th, 2025 **

Learning Objectives for this program include:

  • Describe perioperative bleeding: TRACTION, POISE 2 and 3, and PRICE trials, perioperative tranexamic and aspirin use in non-cardiac surgery, and a debate liver resection surgery and tranexamic acid use.
  • Review of cardiac surgery and IV amino acids for renal protection, perioperative complications and 30-day and 1-year mortality, benzodiazepine use in cardiac anesthesia, management of post cardiac surgery atrial fibrillation, and a chain reaction panel discussion on perioperative individual RCTs vs cluster crossover trials.
  • Recognize perioperative neurocognitive outcomes: PRECISION and Co-TELE-SURGE trials, and relationship between PFO and ischemic stroke and a campfire session on who and how to screen for covert stroke.
  • Describe and review perioperative monitoring: PVC-RAM-3 and OPTIMIZE II trials, troponin and hip fracture, PoC assessment for post-induction
    hypotension and continuous wireless vital sign monitoring vs standard intermittent monitoring.
  • Review and discuss perioperative drug management: renin-angiotensin inhibitors (RAIs), GLP-1 inhibitors, management of postoperative myocardial injury and a fireside chat on management of chronic ARIs at the time of surgery.
  • Discuss, review, and describe prehabilitation and postoperative pain: PREVENT MINS trial, prehabilitation interventions, incidence and risks for postoperative pain and patient characteristics and 30-day readmission after non-cardiac surgery.
