2025 Pre-course: Research Workshop

In advance of the 2025 Perioperative Care Congress, a pre-course research workshop will be offered on Friday November 7, 2025. The event is hosted in collaboration with the Perioperative Care Research Network (PCRN) and the Society for Perioperative Research and Care (SPRC). The workshop will be held in the David Braley Health Sciences Centre (Hamilton, ON).

The research workshop will feature:

  • Key note lectures from leaders in perioperative research
  • Presentation on hot topics in perioperative research
  • Updates from the Canadian initiatives to promote and expand clinicals trials in perioperative research
  • Breakout sessions for presentations and discussions of research ideas and proposals
  • Presentations from investigators looking to expand collaboration in ongoing research
  • Opportunities for networking, collaboration, and mentoring opportunities between trainees, early career, and established researchers in perioperative care

Topics include:

  • Grantsmanship and writing successful grant proposals
  • Time management in clinical research
  • Roadmap to success in clinical research
  • Innovative approaches to informed consent

Date: Friday November 7, 2025, 8:00 – 15:00

Target Audience: Residents, fellows, trainees, early career investigators and established investigators involved in perioperative research.

Registration: Registration to the Perioperative Care Congress 2025 is required in order to register to the workshop.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS – RESEARCH WORKSHOP

As part of the research workshop, participants are invited to submit a proposal for presentation and discussions during the workshop. Proposals from trainees, residents, fellows, early career, and established researchers are all welcome. Accepted proposals will be invited to prepare a short presentation of their project for presentations and discussions during breakout sessions. Ongoing studies will have the opportunity to present to the attendees for potential collaboration.

Inviting submission in perioperative care research for:

  • Ongoing studies looking to expand collaboration.
  • Discuss new research ideas, and how to best to translate it into research projects.
  • Discuss specific aspects of a protocol, proposal, or analysis, including methodological, operationalization, feasibility, or other aspects of the project. All designs are welcome (e.g., RCTs, cohorts, systematic reviews, mixed methods, etc)

Deadline:

  • Worshop proposal submission deadline: **Extended until October 2, 2025, 23:59 ET.
  • Worshop proposal notification: October 8, 2025

GENERAL GUIDELINES 

  • There is no fee to submit a proposal. Presenters are responsible for all costs associated with presenting their proposal, including registration, when applicable.
  • This is not a research competition.
  • Selected research proposals will be presented on Friday, November 7, 2025 during the day. Proposals discussed in the morning breakout sessions will be moderated by an established researcher.
  • All presentations will be in person.
  • Language – Submissions must be in English.

Title

  • Title must reflect the topic to be discussed (e.g., name of the study, research question)
  • Titles must be in English.
  • Type the title directly in the space provided.
  • Title can be in upper- and lower-case letters but do not type in all upper-case letters.

Presenter information

  • Enter the name, credentials, affiliation, career stage, and contact information for the submitting author in the corresponding field.

Proposal

Select if the proposal is for : 1) Ongoing study looking for collaboration or 2) New research ideas or research proposal discussion

Attach a one-page proposal in PDF format that describes the study/proposal.

The proposal should include a:

  • Brief rationale and background for the research proposal
  • Study presentation, if known (design, setting, objectives, population, interventions, etc)
  • Aspects the presenter wishes to discuss and get feedback from the audience
